Heat exchange is achieved by various methods but is enhanced by modern techniques that increase surface area and energy transfer rates of the interface. Forced draft boilers use a circular drum that allows the combustion of gas or oil which then exits through tubes surrounded by water, thereby transferring the heat. Atmospheric heaters use natural draft to combust fuel by mixing the gas and air in a venturi. This then heats a cast iron or copper tube filled with flowing water. Our most popular water heaters, the Arizona Range, are examples of the Scotch Marine Boiler which get their name from their early maritime use and works by passing water through pipes that sit in the combustion chamber, often multiple times to obtain the highest efficiency and optimal temperature. The maximum output of these hot water heaters is a huge 5000kW and they can be cascaded to provide an accumulative effect.
